A lot of you send your children to tutoring centers like Huntington, Sylvan, Score and others. But do you really know what exactly do these tutoring centers provide your children? Resources – resources to practice via lots and lots of homework when it comes to Math. And lots and lots of math worksheets. So a lot of parents today end up spending hundreds of dollars every month for nothing but math worksheets. The math practice books and other practice materials can cost you arm and a leg. So where do you turn to find a cheaper alternative? Immediately you might think of the internet. If you search the internet, you will find hundreds and hundreds of websites that offer practice worksheets. But you will run in the same problem, cost-efficient and affordable worksheets.

This issue of NOT practicing mistakes is extremely important. Parents shouldn’t give worksheets as busy work and teachers should only use them if you are going to have a non-math teacher substitute. White boards with supervision are always a better way to practice skills. If you need some time to do chores, your child will get much more benefit by helping you with the chores. And maybe you can work in a little discussion of numbers or counting while you do chores together.

First, the Basics! The x axis of a graph refers to the horizontal line while the y axis refers to the vertical line. Together these lines form a cross and the point where they both meet is called the origin. The value of the origin is always 0. So if you move your pencil from the origin to the right, you are drawing a line across the positive values of the x axis, i.e., 1, 2, 3 and so on. From the origin to the left, you’re moving across the negative values of the x axis, i.e., -1, -2, -3 and so on. If you go up from the origin, you are covering the positive values of the y axis. Going down from the origin, will take you to the negative values of the y axis.
